Mykonos Pulsed Power Facility

About Mykonos

Mykonos is a five-cavity Linear Transformer Driver (LTD) at Sandia National Laboratories used in support of the Z-Machine and fundamental science research. The machine operates several times per day at 1 MA output current, 500 kV output voltage, with a 10-90% current rise time of 85 ns.

Mykonos facilitates rapid innovation and prototyping of novel ideas and is ideal for sub-scale experiments that enable deeper understanding of high energy density and pulsed power phenomena. It also provides hands-on pulsed power training for students and early staff alongside senior Sandia scientists due to its increased accessibility compared to the Z machine.
