Mykonos originated as an LTD tech. demonstrator that has now transformed into a research facility for science and innovation.
- Mykonos is a linear transformer driver (LTD) that delivers MA class current at 80 ns rise-time to a small target chamber in support of pulsed power and HED science [1].
- Developed as a technology test bed by the AD program, Mykonos now performs 250 shots/year for >10 LDRDs, critical Sandia programs and (~8) University collaborations.
- More than 10 students were supported over the years through Stockpile Stewardship Academic Alliance (SSAA), Stockpile Stewardship Graduate Fellowship (SSGF), DOE NNSA Laboratory Residency Graduate Fellowship, (REHEDS) LDRD, and program.
- Experiments on Mykonos are 1/20 of the cost of Z and are building confidence for follow-on campaigns on Z that benefit NNSA programs (ETI, AutoMag, power flow hardware pre-treatment, x-ray backlighting, current diagnostics).
